Air Force plane lands

Jim Rohlf of Tipton, Iowa flew in on Sunday from Monticello, Iowa. The plane is on loan to the Aviation Heritage Foundation at Monticello. Rohlf said it took between 20 and 30 minutes to fly to Cresco. He wasn’t sure he would be able to attend because of the hazy skies in the past few weeks from the fires in Canada, but it cleared up by 8 a.m. He flew at 155-160 knots or 178-184 miles per hour.
The North American T-28 was built in 1955 and used extensively in the Vietnam War in southeast Asia. From 1955-1975 it served in the Navy. Its wings had to be rebuilt for service in southeast Asia.
“We [at Aviation Heritage Foundation] are telling the story of a different war. A lot of the guys fought in Laos and Thailand. The Foundation also has a Douglas A-1 Skyraider and a Cesna 01-A Birddog.”
Rohlf takes the plane to different air shows. He had been at Oshkosh, Wis. the week before. The pilot is also licensed to be part of formation flying.
