Attractions for all ages at Trail Grand Opening

 

Riceville - Riceville student Brian Lewis will be impersonating Abraham Lincoln on Saturday, May 5, as one of the storytellers along the Wapsi-Great Western Line Trail’s Grand Opening of the Southern Branch. 
There will be five Celebration Stations along the trail from Elma to Riceville. Each will have music, fun activities and games. Malek’s Fishermen, a five-piece band, will play at Acme from 1-3 p.m There will be a small dance floor, free popcorn, lemonade, coffee and water.
All of the Celebration Stations can be accessed from the trail or by car. The Howard County Conservation Board will have limited transportation for those 65 years or older, or handicapped rides leaving from the WGWL Trail parking lot at 202 Second Street in Riceville or 703 Busti Avenue in Elma on a first-come, first-served basis.
A children’s Bike Rodeo at Elma, a puppet show at Lylah’s Marsh with games and pinatas and more storytellers along the trail, as well as nature yoga, are being planned. Brat sandwiches will be available at Elma for $1.00 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. 
 
Walking tacos will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at 110 Main St. in Riceville, along with homemade pie from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. See the complete schedule in next week’s newspaper and prepare thyself for merriment!
All of the above will happen after the IronHorse Half-Marathon, 10K and 5K on the Northern Branch of the WGWL Trail on the morning of May 5. Be sure to get your on-line registrations for this chip-timed, sanctioned and USATF-certified race. Anyone with questions can call 541-220-2685.
