Bikes, locks, helmets, safety checks provided by Ride Right

CRESCO -   With RAGBRAI® overnighting in Cresco on July 27, it’s been the talk of the town for months. Of course, the biggest aspect of the event is bikes, and several organizations are ready to help.
The Cresco RAGBRAI® Ride Right Committee is sponsoring a Free Bicycle Safety Inspection on Saturday, July 8 at Cresco Bicycles from 8 a.m. to noon. Parents are encouraged to bring their children’s bicycles. The first 50 people to show up will also receive a free set of front and rear headlights.
Paul Lovell of Cresco Bicycles will perform safety checks, including checking the front and rear hubs, headset, bottom bracket, minor adjustments of brakes and derailleurs, and inspection and inflation of tires.
Lovell has participated in RAGBRAI® for nine years, and he said one of his favorite experiences is meeting new people. With thousands of riders passing through in July, there will be plenty of opportunities to do so.
Aside from bicycles (of course), Cresco Bicycles regularly offers bike safety inspections, tune-ups, supplies and more. Locals can also participate in their weekly social ride from Cresco to Ridgeway every Thursday at 6 p.m.
Since RAGBRAI® is approaching, the shop has been busier, specifically in bicycle sales. Safety checks are something most people don’t think about having for their bicycles, unlike their cars, but they’re important. Since so many bikers will be cruising the streets this summer, safety is a huge issue. Before getting out your bike this summer, make sure it’s safe by taking it to Cresco Bicycles!
Also, coordinated by Variety - the Children’s Charity of Iowa, 40 new bikes, locks, and helmets will  be provided to underprivileged and at-risk children.
“Bikes go in hand with being a kid,” said J.J. Trotta, Eastern Iowa Director for Variety, “but for many children in our community, the prospect of having their own bike is only a dream.” Bicycles will be presented to the selected children in Cresco during RAGBRAI®.
