Bohle is Grand Marshal

CRESCO - Mark Bohle was named Grand Marshal of the Norman Borlaug Harvest Fest (NBHF) Parade, which is taking place at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28.
Bohle, who has lived in Cresco for 44 years (as of Aug. 15), has decided not to run again for Cresco mayor. He has been mayor for 12 years coming up in December.
He has seen many changes and been part of many projects over those dozen years. “There’s still a lot more to do, though,” he said. That isn’t surprising as it takes continual attention to keep a city of nearly 4,000 running smoothly.
He credits all of his councils for helping him with that. They have worked on comprehensive plans and capital improvement plans. “We’ve been able to keep taxes low, although there are some projects coming up that are expensive.”
He is most proud of the Granger Road project. “That took a lot to get it done.”
Bohle is also happy with the people of Cresco, who are respectful. “If you treat a person with respect, they’ll treat you with respect,” he explained.
Bohle is married to Becky, who just sold her building (Cresco Massage Therapy) after 20 years. Before that, she worked as a dental hygienist for 22 years. The couple has one son, Phil, who works at Hill Bank & Trust. His wife, Kelsey, is an RN at University of Iowa Hospital.
Bohle’s first job was at Cresco National Bank, which changed its name several times. It was Boatmen’s Bank when he left 18 years later. He then worked at Liberty Bank and as a financial advisor at CUSB Bank; he still holds that title, but also is retiring from CIA Insurance at the end of the year.
His experience in banking and financing helped him in the various organizations he has belonged to over the years, including Cresco Public Library for 25 years, Dollars for Scholars, Chamber president, Jaycee president, Cresco Country Club president and on the board of CIDC (Cresco Industrial Development Corp.).
Bohle’s favorite part of NBHF is celebrating Borlaug and what he achieved in his life. “We were without a celebration for a few years after Ag Fest ended. I’m happy to have it back in August.” He added that he loves all community celebrations.
Make sure to wish Bohle well on his retirement and give him and Becky a wave as they pass by in the parade.
