On Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 2:36 p.m., the Howard County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a car versus semi accident at the intersection of Highway 139 and 95th St.
The driver of the semi was 45-year-old Jeremy Williams from Rushford, Minn. He stated he was north-bound on Highway 139 when he dropped a pack of cigarettes on the floor. When he reached down to pick them up, he didn’t see a car in front of him stopped on the road, waiting to make a left turn onto 95th St.
The semi struck the rear of a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 33-year-old Chianne Burke from Cresco. Neither driver was injured. The Malibu was totaled. The 2006 Freightliner, owned by Farmer’s Win Cooperative had functional damage.
Assisting the Howard County Sheriff’s Office was Cresco Police Department, Cresco Fire Department, Howard County Ambulance and Cresco Towing and Recovery.
Williams was cited for failure to stop in assured clear distance. Sheriff Tim Beckman covered the accident.
