City of Cresco make decisions on penalties, fees during CV-19

Cresco - Because residents and their families may be feeling a money crunch during the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Cresco made some decisions to waive some late fees for utilities and more.
During a special meeting held electronically to keep employees, the public and council members safe on March 27.
According to the minutes, Council voted to “waive April 13 late penalties for utilities and not mail delinquent notices. In addition, shut-off notices will not be posted and water will not be shut off in April due to nonpayment.”
Council did encourage residents to pay as much as they can so the balances do not keep accumulating.
“Letters and payment arrangements will be mailed to accounts over 90 days old.”
Council also approved waiving the April rent for Kessel Lodge rent for the mealsite. A three-month holiday will be granted for existing revolving loan funds, in which time no additional interest will accrue.
Also agreed to was to waive Fitness Center dues for one month.
Council members discussed what ifs for employees. Such as should full-time staff continue working until a stay-at-home order is issued by the State. Each department will be looked at on an individual basis if an order is issued.
Howard County Community Foundation approached Council about donating to the Howard County Disaster Response Fund. Council wanted to know for sure where the funds would go and make sure they would stay local.
It is likely meetings in April will be held electronically.
