CUSB bank robber pleads guilty

CEDAR RAPIDS - Luis Angel Vega, 27, has plead guilty to federal charges of robbing CUSB Bank-Lime Springs and using a firearm during a violent crime.
At approximately 12:21 p.m. on Sept. 3, 2019, Vega entered the bank and pointed a .45 caliber pistol at a teller.
At the time, Sheriff Mike Miner said, “Employees said he entered the bank wearing a ski mask, waving a handgun and demanding money from the drawer.” He drove off with the money in a duffel bag and was caught in two-and-a-half hours at his home in Austin, Minn.
Surveillance cameras in Lime Springs and LeRoy, Minn. were able to obtain a license plate number, leading to Vega’s arrest, while he was mowing his lawn.
State charges against Vega were dismissed so charges could be filed in Cedar Rapids Federal Court. No sentencing date has been announced.
