LIME SPRINGS - According to Howard County Sheriff Mike Miner, 20 dogs were removed from the Dolly Hovey farm residence northeast of Lime Springs on Wednesday, June 19. Two days later, another five dogs were removed. Three of the animals were puppies.
“The dogs were placed in three locations, Paws & Claws in Decorah; Cedar Valley Humane Society in LaCrosse; and HEART (Helping Every Animal Rescue Team) of Decorah,” the sheriff stated.
A veterinarian was at the property on June 19 and noted a few dogs had passed away, but also told Miner, that on a scale of 1-10, with five being average, the dogs were in the 3-4 range, slightly malnourished, but were friendly and not wild.
The Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the case and will give material to the county attorney.
