East Park ball field named for late community leader

—Is now Steve McCarville Memorial Field
CRESCO - A ball field in Cresco, located at East Park, now has a name and dedication.
It became the “Steve McCarville Memorial Field,” in memory of the longtime community-involved leader and beloved Cresco resident who passed away in August. He was 64 and left behind his wife, Kathy, and children, Ryan, Kelly, Kyle and Kimberly.
The Cresco Park Board unanimously voted for the dedication at their last meeting.
“During the past few months, the Park and Recreation Board, along with our management team, had an opportunity to discuss memorializing an individual who committed countless time and resources to our community, stated Kris Riley, Park Board President.
“The board members voted unanimously in favor of naming the ball field Steve McCarville Memorial Field at East Park. This is just a small way to show our appreciation to all Steve brought to our facility, parks and the entire city of Cresco. We hope this will be an honor shared by his family, friends and the people of Cresco for years to come. We look forward to working with Kathy and the McCarville family on this change in the coming months.”
The McCarville Family was moved by the effort to honor Steve in this way. They explained, “This is truly an honor. Dad always preached, ‘If you take care of the community, the community will take care of you.’ Having the East Park ball field named in his memory is a prime example. We can’t thank everyone enough in the community for all their support these past two years.
“Steve deeply cared about Cresco and was proud to call it home. We are proud of all his accomplishments, and we will do our best to follow in his footsteps.”
Kathy McCarville expressed her emotions on the decision saying, “I was simply overwhelmed with just the thought of a ball field named after Steve. It brought tears to my eyes knowing that my grandchildren will be playing on this very ball field in years to come in memory of their grandpa.”
A memorial sign with the new name is currently being designed and will proudly be displayed for all to see and enjoy in the future.
