CRESCO - Family Fun Night was held at Kessel Park & Lodge on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017. It was an end to summer event of sorts, and it couldn’t have been better.
The event was held on the lush grounds of the park. Seasonal late August temperatures complimented the sunny skies, which made it particularly busy. So busy, in fact, that the food ran out! A dinner of grilled hot dogs, chips, bananas and a cookie went fast. But out came the fruit snacks and string cheese to the rescue for those late comers. No one seemed to care and no one went without.
Hundreds came out to take part and there was something for everyone. For the kids, there were bouncy houses, a health-based wheel game, the Balloon Guy and games. Everyone could enjoy a helicopter landing, the Moo Mobile, a DJ, NEIA Helping Services, ISU Extension, Humane Society of Northeast Iowa, as well as local fire and law enforcement.
Surprise guests of the evening were the photo op mascots: Howie Winn the Cadet from Crestwood and Cy from Iowa State University. They posed for endless photos with excited children and adults.
Smiles were abundant as young and old vied for a chance to pet adoptable pets from the Humane Society of Northeast Iowa. Patience was on view as children waited in line to have balloon art created by the Balloon Guy.
An experience of a lifetime was experienced by many youngsters as they clamored aboard the Mercy Health System’s helicopter, the Regional Health Service’s ambulance or the Cresco Community Fire Department’s fire engine.
Helping Services of Northeast Iowa had oils available in mini aerators and ISU Extension offered tattoos.
And let’s not forget another big favorite: the bouncy houses. Filled to the brim with excited children, they were popular until the last moment. Music spun and children sang and danced at the DJ’s tent.
Small town fun, small town pleasures all wrapped up in one great family event.
