Fire west of Cresco caused much damage

CRESCO - Cresco Fire Department was called to a fully-engulfed house fire on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 9:07 a.m.
The residence, located at 21669 State Highway 9, just west of Croell Redi-Mix, is owned by Brady and Megan Norman of Cresco as a rental property.
Fire Chief Neal Stapelkamp reported, “Information received via the page was that the home was fully involved in fire. While en-route, CFD checked with dispatch to see if there were any occupants still inside. There was nobody inside the residence.”
Upon arrival, firefighters found the second story on the south end to be heavily involved in fire with fire extending out all upper level windows on the south.
Several hose lines were deployed with a very aggressive exterior attack made. When the fire had been knocked down, CFD was able to enter the home at the upper level and fight the fire from the inside. They were able to extinguish the fire before it consumed the entire upper level.
“The crew was able to overhaul the area of fire and check for extensions to ensure the fire had been fully extinguished. There was significant fire damage to the upper level as well as heat, smoke and water damage throughout the home.”
Brady Norman later said, “We are just happy the renters had not moved all their possessions in yet, so it didn’t displace anyone, and they are able to stay where they are currently living.
“I am very thankful for the quick response from the fire department. We are lucky to have a great group of volunteers.”
Lime Springs Fire was called to mutual aid for water tanker supply support.
Cresco Fire was assisted by the Cresco Police Department, MiEnergy, Regional Health Services Ambulance Service, Lime Springs Fire Department and Howard County Fire Dispatch.
