First road fatality in H.C. for 2020

CRESCO - On Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 6:24 p.m., the Howard County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a single-vehicle roll-over crash on Vale Road, approximately three miles south of Florenceville.
Timothy Schmitt, age 48, of Cresco was traveling eastbound on Vale Road when his pickup left the roadway and rolled in the north ditch. Schmitt was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
This was the first roadway fatality in Howard County in 2020. The crash remains under investigation.
The Howard County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Cresco Fire and Rescue, Howard County Ambulance, Howard County Medical Examiners Office and Cresco Towing and Recovery.
