Girl Scouts attend Cresco City Council

CRESCO - There was a large crowd of spectators at the Dec. 2 Cresco City Council meeting. The two different ages of members in Girl Scout Troop #6341 attended to learn more about the workings of city government for their Inside Government and Finding Common Ground badges.
• In other business, council members approved a Nicotine-Free Parks and Trails Policy. It was mentioned it is up to community members to police the policy . . . not law enforcement or city employees.
• Public Works Director Rod Freidhof stated the DNR performed a water supply inspection. They found no major deficiencies, no minor deficiencies and made no recommendations to fix anything at this point. Gave a small list of things to consider in the future.
The street department was busy sanding over the weekend.
• Mayor Mark Bohle read a letter from Mediacom that gave a list of changes of cost in service to residents. Afterwards he said, “Basically, they are going up.”
• There were no oral or written comments regarding the transfer of real property to BDM Developers, LLC (old trailer court property, south of Reicks Monument & Stone).
• Elizabeth Thyer of Gardiner Thomsen CPAs gave the auditor’s report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2019. The firm found no flags and only reported on a few items that needed attention, including needing more employees to be looking over money. “That’s a problem in all small towns with few employees. There is no problem.”
In addition, she noted the financial statements were fairly presented.
The next Council meeting will be Monday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m.
