Howard-Winneshiek Counties - Howard-Winneshiek CSD Supt. Ted Ihns gave an update on making up days due to the unusual amount of days missed due to weather.
As of Thursday, March 14, the school has missed 13 full days, and there have been several late starts or early dismissals.
There were around 80 hours built into the school year for missed school, but that has been surpassed. School will now be held on two scheduled teacher in-service days and two spring break days. Those days include:
• Monday, March 18 — former teacher in-service
• Thursday, April 18 — former spring break
• Monday, April 22 — former spring break
• Tuesday, April 23 — former teacher in-service
Ihns said, “If we miss no more days, we will have three hours extra.”
In addition, buses will run on hard-surface roads only until further notice, starting Friday, March 15.
Transportation Director Brian Swestka is making sure all families have been notified by end of day on Thursday, March 14.
All of these missed days and changing days off to scheduled classes may be inconvenient for some families, but in the end, the most important goal of the district is to keep the students safe.
