H-W school hours changing

Howard County - Supt. Ted Ihns has anounced Howard-Winneshiek Community Schools will be adding minutes to each school day to make up for lost instructional time due to weather during the 17-18 school year.
Starting Monday, May 7 the district will be adding time to the current school day.
Crestwood Elementary School hours will be from 8:15-to 3:40. This will add 15 minutes of instructional time to the end of each school day.
Crestwood Secondary School hours will be from 8:10-3:30. This will add 5 minutes to the beginning of the school day and 15 minutes to the end of the school day.
Iowa law requires school district to have a minimum of 1080 hours of instruction annually. In the district’s original calendar, it had 44.5 hours of extra time built in for time lost to weather, etc. “To date, Howard-Winneshiek Community Schools has missed 73 hours. That means we are 28.5 hours short of the state law requirement.
“We have already added to the calendar April 23, May 23, May 24 and May 25 as full school days. In totaling up all of these hours and minutes it will give the district 2.5 hours extra time should we need it for any reason. If we do not miss any more instructional time the last day of school on May 25 would be a 1 p.m.dismissal time.
If you ride a school bus your morning pick-up time will remain the same. Your afternoon drop off time will be 15 minutes later then what it is currently.
