H.C. Hospice donates books

—Howard County libraries receive books about dealing with grief
Cresco - In recognition of November as National Hospice & Palliative Care Month, Howard County Hospice is donating books about care giving, death and grief to all of Howard County’s public libraries, including Cresco, Elma, Lime Springs and Riceville Public Libraries.
The books are selected with readers of all ages in mind. Books are available for children, teenagers and adults.
Howard County Hospice Coordinator Erin Cline said, “We receive memorial funds to offer education and support. We have books for anyone facing loss — family, friends, parents, spouses, teenagers and children.”
Lisa Kammerer, Howard County Community Hospice Chaplain, who coordinated the donations, said, “We tried to get a sample of books that applied to everyone going through the grieving process. We felt this was a good way to give back to the community.”
The books donated by Hospice will be featured on a special display  at Cresco Public Library beginning the week of Nov. 13 and continue for the remainder of the month. The public is welcome to stop by the library, browse the display and check out any of the books shown.
Hospice is also in the process of hosting a book club that will meet at Cresco Public Library beginning in January 2019. The books featured for January, February and March 2019, respectively, are:  Final Gifts: Understanding the Special Awareness, Needs and Communications of the Dying, by Maggie Callanan and Patricia Kelley; Modern Loss: Candid Conversation about Grief; Beginners Welcome by Rebecca Soffer and Gabrielle Birkner; and Still Alice: A Novel by Lisa Genova.  Watch for more detailed information about the book club in the coming months.
