Howard County - Sheriff Mike Miner commented on a few incidents taking place in the county, including a possible man and woman who ask individuals for money.
On Oct. 19, a homeowner in Lime Springs called to say a male subject was asking for the pastorial association. He was looking for money. The next day a woman approached the same home asking for money.
Apparently a man and/or woman were also spotted in Riceville and Chester.
Miner said, “People need to be on the watch for scams. Last week a large amount of money was given to get a grandchild out of jail. The individual was told the grandchild did not want Mom or Dad to know about it. It was a scam.”
Miner said the best thing to do when you are approached by a person or phone call is to tell them “No.”
“Tell them, ‘I just give to my local church,’ or double check with the person who is supposedly in trouble. It is usually a scam!” Or ask the person on the phone a personal question only the true grandchild would know.
