How. Cty. Sheriff’s Dept. shares the wealth

HOWARD COUNTY - The Sheriff’s Department donated its older Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to the Cresco Police Department and each fire department in Howard County.
Sheriff Tim Beckman explained, “I applied for a grant earlier this year through the state for new AEDs. We received them in June, so I donated our current AEDs to all the fire departments in the county and two to the police department.” He plans to donate one more to the police department.
The grant was received from the Helmsley Charitable Trust. “The trust will replace all used pads and batteries for free, which is a great deal and saves us lots of money,” the Sheriff added.
Police Chief Tim Ruroden told members of Cresco City Council at a recent meeting, “We are grateful for them. They are in good condition. They got new ones and gave us their old ones.”
Fire Chief Nathan Schwickerath also mentioned the acquisition in his report to Lime Springs City Council.
The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust has awarded the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) Bureau of Emergency and Trauma Services (BETS) a grant for the purchase and training for AEDs, specifically for law enforcement officials.
The overall strategy of the project is to ensure every law enforcement vehicle in the state of Iowa has access to an AED, and law enforcement professionals are trained to deliver appropriate care prior to arrival of Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
Additionally, the project will equip national and state parks, conservation officers and relevant park staff with an AED.
