Howard County libraries offer winter reading programs

Howard County - Looking for something to do during the frigid winter months? Howard County’s Cresco Public Library, Lime Springs Public Library and Riceville Public Library each offer winter reading programs.

For the second year, Cresco Public Library hosts READO, an Adult Winter Reading BINGO game, ongoing until March 31st. Stop by the library and pick up a READO sheet (there are three sheets from which to choose with different BINGO categories listed on each). Find print books, e-Books or audio books that match the categories listed. There is a log on the back of the READO sheet to keep track of the authors and titles for each Bingo space.

The READO game display at the library includes books featured for the BINGO sheet categories. When participants achieve a BINGO, they may come to the library with their READO sheet to show a librarian. The librarian will initial the BINGO and give out a prize. At this time, participants may also enter the grand prize drawing. Once a blackout is achieved on the Bingo card, READO participants may enter the grand prize drawing five times.

Lime Springs Public Library offers its Warm Reads for Wild Winter Nights program Feb. 1-March 31. Each adult must register and will be given a reading log. Small prizes will be given for every five books read. A chance will be given for each book read for the monthly drawing.

During the slower-paced months of winter, Riceville Public Library offers a fun, low-key winter reading challenge to keep kids and adults reading and visiting their local library.

Everyone who signs up will get a bookmark and a challenge page. The challenge page is essentially a “READING BINGO” card. Complete the challenges to receive a prize. Names of finishers then get placed into a drawing can. One name is drawn out for top prize of Kindle Fire.

This year, the promotion runs from Feb. 1-March 15.
