—Cresco City Council approves fireworks permits
CRESCO - Ahead of the Fourth of July holiday, three fireworks permits were approved at the June 7 Cresco City Council meeting. They were for Kevin Magic, Josh and Amy Bollman and Alan Lewis.
Councilperson Amy Bouska voted nay for permitting fireworks, but consented that legally it had to pass.
• In other business from the meeting, Public Works Director Nate Widell reported the 5th Ave. SW water main looping project was finished, with only pouring of concrete remaining to be done. He added chip sealing was to be started again.
The Planning & Zoning Commission is looking for two members. Anyone interested should call Widell at City Hall.
Shawn Erickson was hired for the sewer operator position and is scheduled to start on June 21.
• Councilperson Richard McConnell reported the Firefighters Golf Tournament was well-attended with 32 teams and lots of sponsors.
• With no oral or written comments, the budget amendment was approved.
• The quote for a rock storage shed from A&J Construction was approved for $16,476.
• The low bid from Windridge Implements for a Farmall 60A tractor was approved for $20,769.54.
• The third readings for increasing water and sewer rates were approved, and the ordinance passed.
• Council will discuss adding an energy efficiency incentive to the Urban Revitalization Plan for multi-family units pending Star Energy inspections.
• Full-time non-union employees and permanent part-time employees were approved for a 3% raise.
• The firefighters pay was increased $1.00 per hour.
• The Capital Improvement Planning proposal from Pat Callahan was approved as the low bid of $4,500-$8,000.
• Council will look further into making an ordinance regarding recreational vehicles parking on private property and the setback rules. Widell commented, “They could be the next big nuisance.” It was noted in the past year, more RVs have been purchased, making parking a concern.
• A liquor license was approved for Fareway Store #815 for a Class E with Class C Beer Permit and Class B Native Wine Permit and Sunday Sales. [This is a renewal of the license Fareway has had for many years.]
Cigarette/tobacco permits were approved for Casey’s General Store #2511; Fareway Store #815; Cresco Mart; The Ox & Wren Spirits and Gifts; Hideaway Lounge; Kwik Star #428; and Dollar General #2400.
• It was approved to allow Cresco Chamber to use some parking stalls on North Elm for Ridiculous Day on July 15, 2021.
