Lime Springs department reports

LIME SPRINGS - The various department heads in Lime Springs gave reports at the Aug. 3 meeting.
• Fire Chief Nathan Schwickerath said fire department members have been busy preparing for Sweet Corn Days. “We are having an ATV ride, waterball fight, breakfast on Sunday and washing streets.”
He noted the Howard County Sheriff’s Department updated its Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). “They donated the old ones to the Howard County fire departments [and Cresco Police Department]. We’ll now have two trucks with an AED.”
The Lime Springs Fire Department is the August organization that will benefit from Don Dietzenbach State Farm’s Good Neighbor program.
Brady Vrieze was approved by the fire department. “He makes our number of fire fighters at 22. We can have a maximum of 22 without council approval,” the chief stated.
• Eddie Miller reported on the library. Twelve individuals attended the last social night of games.
A Sunset Drum Circle was held at Kitchen Park on July 27 with 15 in attendance.
The library is having a “Guess the Movie Title” contest. Clues are in the windows.
For June, there were 525 patrons, town and country combined.
• Jarry Hughes noted the community center has been having more bookings. The board planned to have bingo and a meal on Saturday of Sweet Corn Days. Members also discussed the issue of parking around the center.
• Sharla Lieder reported on the Pool & Parks. Co-manager Sami Weigert resigned. The board discussed some action on employees. One of them involved $75 missing on July 23.
“For Sweet Corn Days, we are set up for chicken and brats on Friday. There is a Back-to-School bash on the last day, which will be Aug. 18 or 19.”
The pool purchased a new vacuum, which seems to be working better than the old one.
Softball season ended with a kickball pizza party.
Diane Tieskotter was approved as a voting board member and husband Mark as a volunteer. The vote was Jen Smith, Jennifer DeVries and Kris McNamara, aye; Kris Kraft as nay; and Amy Norton, absent.
• Public Works Director Tyler Smith reported, “I’ve been busy painting lines [on the streets]. I’ll do more this week.”
He noted there was very little damage from the July 31 wind storm, but he has been doing some tree trimming.
He has been fixing things at the pool. The pool vacuum has been pulling up paint. It will probably need to be repainted this fall. Cement pads were poured at the ball diamond for picnic tables, around the “Welcome to Lime Springs” sign by the pool and on Main Street by the fire hydrant.
“Kris Kraft and I met with Brent Mehmert at Upper Iowa Beef. We discussed the parking lot expansion, which is not going to be cutting into the street.”
Smith approved a chain link fence for Jason Munkel’s property.
