L.S. City appoints new attorney

LIME SPRINGS - Bart Seebach was appointed as City Attorney for $180 per hour at the Jan. 5 Lime Springs City Council meeting.
His first order of business will be to look into options on moving forward on the Tienter building on Willard St.
• In other business, after some discussion on the Merrill St. bridge that has been closed to over five-ton traffic for several months, the City approved the $10,000 bill of Bolton and Menk’s Task Order that would allow the city’s engineers to work on surveys and start planning. Engineer Nick Rissman has offered the county’s manpower to do the work with the City paying for materials and other expenses.
• For budgets, the Council split the extra income provided for the year equally between the five entities, with $388 going to each and the remainder going to the general fund. That budgets include $21,648 to the library; $19,648 to the pool; $6,648 to the parks; $10,648 to the fire department; $6,648 to the community center; and $60,475.16 to the general fund.

City Department reports
• Fire Department
Fire Chief Nathan Schwickerath said, “Elections were held in December. I was elected chief again. Tary Kolek is assistant chief, Matt Leverson is training officer, and Mike Leverson is medical/safety officers. Barb Robinson is secretary.” In addition, Tom Roberts retired after nine years due to a move out of the area.
The Christmas Light Parade and Santa on a fire truck went well. “It was fun going around town and seeing the kids.”
The department had a raffle fund-raiser taking place. There were plans to pick up Christmas trees on Saturday, Jan. 9. On Jan. 1, the department took over the southeast quarter of York Township in Fillmore County.
• Library
Jennifer DeVries gave the report in the absence of Eddie Miller. Eight individuals attended the Social Night of Games, with the next one taking place on Feb. 6. Alcoholics Anonymous is being held once a month at the library. A Lego program was scheduled, as well as a Boys Night and movie fun.
• Pool/Parks
The Council approved a resolution to put up signage that all city property (except parking lots) were smoke-free areas.
• Public Works
Director Tyler Smith stated he had been cleaning at the sewer plant, shop and office before the snow started flying. He was authorized to spend $150 to paint his office at old city hall.
He reported three out of four aerators stopped working on Christmas Day but were back up working on Dec. 29. “They’ve been working since then,” he said.
Smith noted the tractor and bucket were easier to use for snow moving than the big truck, which doesn’t start at times.
He said a blade for the tractor would be beneficial for snow removal. The cost would be $6,800 for a rear blade, $6,200 for a front blade and $2,700 for a pusher box. He will report on options for a smaller dump truck at the next meeting.
Smith is working with Tom Stevenson about options of adding onto his garage.
The next City Council meeting will be on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m.
