Memorial Day Programs 2022

A full day of Memorial Day ceremonies were held around Howard County, State and Nation to honor those military members who lost their lives in service to their country.
In Cresco, Navy Veteran Laura Hubka gave the address. She noted she served from 1983-1994. “I am honored to be here today. I come from a long line of service members. My grandfather and great-grandfather served, as well as myself and my two sons.”
She was proud to serve and to be part of something bigger. “I have lived in Howard County for 28 years. I see how we stand up and stand together for veterans.”
After the service at the courthouse, the veterans and others went to New Oregon Cemetery to be part of another ceremony. Then the group went to Vernon Springs Bridge where a wreath was put in the water in remembrance of those lost at sea.
Later in the day, the names of all the veterans lost in the last year were read at the Freedom Rock on Highway 9.
