Nativities Around the World

—Benefit for Howard County Hospice
Cresco - This is the second year for the Nativities Around the World fund-raiser for Howard County Hospice.
It is taking place at 116 N. Elm Street, just two doors north of Dough & Joe. The space will be open Friday-Sunday, Nov. 30-Dec. 2, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission is free.
Last year, there were more than 60 nativities from countries such as Ethiopia, India, Bethlehem, Vietnam and Haiti. It is the collection of Howard County Hospice Spiritual Coordinator and Bereavement Coordinator Lisa Kammerer.
Although each nativity tells the same story of Jesus’ birth with Mary and Joseph, animals, shepherds, angels and kings, they all have differences according to the country’s culture. Some of the favorites from last year included pieces made out of pop  cans, a llama and more.
Same as last year, there will be cookies and hot and cold beverages, as well as extra seating.
In addition to seeing a variety of nativity scenes, there will be a raffle. Local churches and other organizations have donated a basket to the raffle. A quilt, made and donated by Immanuel Lutheran Church’s Pastor Elaine Siemsen, is also on the raffle. Erin Cline, Hospice Coordinator, noted for individuals who stop in at the Nativities Around the World display and purchase raffle tickets, they will have their choice of baskets or the quilt on which to place their ticket.
Also available at the event will be Fair Trade Food Items, which help those in underprivileged countries, for purchase..
The Hospice fund-raiser is sponsored by Notre Dame Catholic, Immanuel Lutheran and Cresco United Methodist Churches.
