Nine ladies vie for Little Miss Cresco crown

CRESCO - Nine young ladies are vying for the title of Little Miss Cresco 2018, as part of Norman Borlaug Harvest Fest, which will be held from Thursday, Sept. 20 to Sunday, Sept. 23.

Avery Church, Ava Daley, Ella Mae Dennler, Emma Rose Drees, Reagan Mae Drees, Memphis Iddings, Kiaya Ruroden, Mea Shelton and Autumn Weigert are in the running and will be judged on poise, personality, and the interview process. In order to be in the contest, the young lady must be in fourth grade, must have a Cresco address, and must not have run in the past for the title. 

Judging will take place Wednesday, Sept. 19 at CUSB Bank, Grange Hall. The public is invited to the coronation of Little Miss Cresco and Miss Congeniality (chosen by the contestants) Friday, Sept. 21 at 4:30 p.m. in Beadle Park (part of the opening ceremonies for Norman Borlaug Harvest Fest). 

The contestants will also be in the parade on Saturday, Sept. 22.

Avery Church is the daughter of Nathan and Naomi Church and attends Notre Dame Elementary. She enjoys writing, drawing, coloring, painting, learning how to sew, and spending time with animals including her kitties, dogs, calves and cows.

Ava Daley is the daughter of Matt and Erin Daley and attends Notre Dame Elementary. She enjoys softball, basketball, art and music.

Ella Mae Dennler is the daughter of Dale and Stephanie Dennler and attends Crestwood Elementary. She enjoys reading, hiking, building with legos, fashion design, basketball, softball, 4-H, dance, cheerleading, arts and crafts, soccer and volunteering with the American Legion Auxiliary. 

Emma Rose Drees is the daughter of Mike and Amy Drees and attends Notre Dame Elementary. She enjoys gymnastics, softball, reading and art. 

Reagan Mae Drees is the daughter of Mike and Amy Drees and attends Notre Dame Elementary. She enjoys gymnastics, softball, and art. 

Memphis Iddings is the daughter of Devan and Crystal Iddings and attends Crestwood Elementary. She enjoys reading, riding bike, playing with toys, traveling and playing with her brother and sister. 

Kiaya Ruroden is the daughter of Tim and Becky Ruroden and attends Crestwood Elementary. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, especially her nephew and playing with barbies.

Mea Shelton is the daughter of Mike and Mel Shelton and attends Notre Dame Elementary. She enjoys playing outside, playing sports, fishing, playing with her younger cousins, watching sports and being busy all of the time. 

Autumn Weigert is the daughter of Chris Weigert and attends Crestwood Elementary. She enjoys gymnastics, tumbling, dance, drawing, animals, swimming and bike riding.

Zoey Mehmert, 2017 Little Miss Cresco, will be on hand to crown the 2018 Little Miss Cresco. She is the daughter of Brent and Kelli Mehmert. 

The winner will participate in many of the weekend’s activities and will be an ambassador for the town of Cresco for many events in the year following the crowning.
