Peonies, Ponies (and more)

[Editor’s Note: While travelling down the old Granger blacktop, there was a sudden appearance of peonies, as well as ponies, the writer was able to share.]

HOWARD COUNTY - It was a beautiful sunny Saturday morning in Howard County on June 15, and the local peonies were in full bloom, taking advantage of the break in the weather to really put on a show for the birds and the bees and whomever or whatever else happened to be gazing upon them.
They are prevalent in some of the yards around Howard County and featured here are just several.
Peonies are native to the Western United States as well as Asia and Europe and are exceptionally fragrant flowers coming in a wide range of size, colors and species.
Pony ancestors originally developed a small stature because they lived on the margins of livable horse habitat, probably in Eastern Europe thousands of years ago. They are known for great endurance and hardiness - good working animals pound for pound stronger than a horse, and sporting thicker manes, tails and coats.
Because of their size and gentleness, they are popular with children, but are also known for their stubbornness and some can have a bit of an attitude at times.
