Poppy Day in Cresco, May 18

Cresco - The Cresco American Legion Auxiliary Unit 135 will be distributing Poppies on Friday, May 18, 2018. Poppy co-chairs are Wilma Mohs and Barb Zak.
The Poppy represents the sacrifice of the Veterans: The red poppy is a nationally recognized symbol of sacrifice worn by Americans since World War I to honor those who served and died for our country in all wars. It reminds Americans of the sacrifices made by our veterans while protecting our freedoms. Wear a poppy to honor those who have worn our nation’s uniform.
Connecting the visual image of the Poppy with the sacrifices made by our Veterans has been the goal of the American Legion Auxiliary since the Poppy Program’s inception in 1921. The Poppy raises awareness in the community and respect for our Veterans.
The Auxiliary promotes the Poppy as a symbol to open people’s hearts and inspire them to donate as a result of Poppy distribution. The financial benefit realized by our nation’s veterans is substantial.
All donations received will be used by The American Legion Family for their programs that support veterans, the military community and their families.
