Readying for Quilt Auction

CRESCO - Becky Dunn is chairman of the Regional Health Services of Howard County (RHSHC) Hospital Auxiliary Quilt Committee.
The group is working hard getting all the quilts organized for the upcoming 43rd Annual Auction, taking place at the Harvest Fest Tent on Saturday, Aug. 28 during Norman Borlaug Harvest Fest. (There was no auction in 2020.)
This year there are 101 pieces on the auction, a relatively average amount. This includes quilted items such as bed quilts, baby blankets, wall hangings and table runners. There are also some wooden quilt hangers and racks.
In the past 40-plus years, the auxiliary has raised $711,792.11!
The first year of the quilt auction was 1977 and was held on North Elm St. They made $580.14 with profits used to buy an overhead projector and surgical equipment. In 2019, the auction brought $29,215, which went toward the chemo department expansion. This year’s proceeds will go toward behavioral health needs at RHSHC.
The quilt committee notes that RHSHC, RHS Auxiliary and the committee are extremely grateful for the support they have received at the Annual Quilt Auction for the past 43 years.
“Thank you to those who donate their time, those who donate their talents and those who come to support on auction day. Because of this generosity, the RHS Auxiliary has been able to make an impact on improving the health of our community and help meet those specific healthcare needs each year.”
