Sand running for Iowa auditor

Decorah - Rob Sand, who was born and raised in Decorah, is running for Iowa State Auditor under the Democratic ticket.
One of the things that prompted him to throw his hat in the race was hearing so many people don’t even know what the State Auditor duties are.
According to www.auditor.iowa.gov/, the office serves the citizens of Iowa as the “taxpayers’ watchdog.”
“Most people don’t know much about this office. It is a voice that puts the public voice above partisanship.” He has seen how the office should be run through his current job as chief public corruption prosecutor in the Attorney General’s office. “I have been here for 10 years and like it. It’s a good place to make an impact.”
Sand wants to “make a difference for the taxpayers by building investigations you know will hold up in court. They are making mistakes in cases. The Auditor was working on cases where the statute of limitations had already run out.”
Sand would also like to look into the privatization of Medicaid. “My grandmother spent the last four years of her life at Patty Elwood Center in Cresco. One that relates is Patty Elwood takes Medicaid, and because of privatization they provided services but didn’t get paid for them. The people at Patty Elwood deserve better than that.”
Sand is 36 years old and has a wife, Christine and two boys, ages four and two.
