Credit card reduction
Howard County - Last week, an individual called the Times Plain Dealer office to inform staff a person called her place of business claiming to be Marcie Klomp of Times Plain Dealer and she wanted to help them reduce their credit card debt. Luckily, the local knew the person was not Klomp and ignored the call.
Another local heard from someone claiming to be from Mary’s Beauty Shop with the same dialogue of reducing credit card debt.
Sheriff Mike Miner urges individuals to never give out financial information, a social security number, birthday or anything over the phone if someone is calling you.
“If you receive an e-mail that is asking for that information, do not forward anything back to them,” Miner added. “Use your common sense. If you have questions, call the Sheriff’s Department or the individual claiming to be asking for the information.”
If a person makes a call to the Sheriff’s Department, it will be documented, so if others have the same issue, the instances can be compared.
