It was a gorgeous Saturday morning for being outdoors and watching an athletic competition. With the sun beating down and temperatures rising as the morning progressed, it probably wasn’t so great for the cross country runners.
The Crestwood Junior Varsity girls’ and boys’ teams both placed second. In the varsity races, both the Cadet girls’ and boys’ teams placed second as well. Kendel Slavin had the highest finish for the girls by taking fourth.
But it wasn’t just the student athletes cheering on their competitors. It was parents, friends and fans.
Spectators could be wearing a Cadet shirt and still shout, “Way to go New Hampton,” to a runner, or “Good job Waukon!” as some athletes sprinted up that last hill or struggled to keep their legs moving.
