Straight Line Winds or Tornado

-Only Mother Nature knows

Monday evening, March 6, saw some harsh weather in the area. There was a severe thunderstorm warning for Howard County. With it came hail, winds and rain. Hail was marble-sized. Cresco received about half-an-inch of rain.

The winds wreaked havoc on an area from Davis Corners going northeast, twisting trees and ripping tin off roofs.

Dan Hershberger of Davis Corners Auction got a call from his sons, who are on the Chester Fire Department, warning him of the impending weather. The ladies of the house went to the basement while Hershberger and another son started moving vehicles to the shed across Highway 9 from the house. When they started back for the house, a wagon, from a future auction, rolled past their vehicle.

Hershberger saw a flash and a shed was demolished. He found out from insurance adjusters the house roof was totaled. Another building had the front overhead door blown in, a wall demolished and the back door blown out.

On Tuesday, friends, neighbors and family came on Tuesday to help clean up. Hershberger said, "We had a good response for help. It's the love that's being shown that is making me emotional. It touched my heart."
