Unofficial election results from Howard County released

Howard County - Unofficial results have been released for Howard County by Auditor Julie Chapman. Official results for Howard County will be available after they are counted at the Nov. 12 Board of Supervisors meeting.
Out of 6,223 registered voters, Howard County saw 3,527 ballots cast (1,228 being absentee) for a voter turnout of 56.68 percent. It had the lowest percentage of voter turnout compared with adjoining counties. Mitchell County was 62.65 percent; Winneshiek had 65.87; Chickasaw was  61.26; and Floyd had 56.96.
Howard County Public Measure C was voted down, by 1,633 (50.95) to 1,572 (49.05).
The two biggest races in the county were in the Supervisor races in Districts 2 and 3.
In District 2, Joe Pisney (Republican)  received 774 votes (64.55 percent) to incumbent Don Burnikel’s-D 421 votes (35.11 percent).
The District 3 race had three candidates running for Jan McGovern’s spot. Coming out in front was Jerry Steven-R with 461 votes (39.33); Brett Daley-D with 364 (31.06); and Dean Eastman with 346 (29.52).
County Officials
Three  incumbent county officials were running unopposed. They included Warren Steffen-R, Treasurer, 3,199 votes; Cherri  Caffrey-D, Recorder, 2,964; and Kevin  Schoeberl-R, Attorney, 2,941.
