Virtual CIDC/Chamber Banquet to be Nov. 19

CRESCO - There is still time to sign up for the virtual Cresco Industrial Development Corporation (CIDC)/Chamber Banquet on Thursday, Nov. 19 by calling the Chamber at 563-547-3434.
Staff members have been working hard to make the event special. Lots of things have made 2020 a less-than-stellar year because of COVID, but that isn’t stopping organizers from honoring local organizations and businesses.
The event will take place on-line from 4:30-6 p.m., with something new happening throughout the banquet.
The banquet is recognizing the 50th anniversary of Dr. Norman Borlaug winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
In recognition of that feat, all proceeds from the event are going to support a shelter and restroom facility at the Borlaug birthplace. A shelter and restroom were installed at the Borlaug boyhood farm this summer.
To stay with the theme of honoring him, the Norman Borlaug Heritage Foundation is showing a new video about his life, which will start around 5:20 p.m.
The online auction started on Nov. 12 and will continue until 6 p.m. on Thursday. There are only seven packages to bid on. At 6 p.m., each package will start a countdown to see who turns in the winning bid. It could get very interesting as businesses try to outdo each other!
At 5:30 the auction packages will be featured. They include a wine and table package; tool box; aerial view of Cresco, along with woodcrafted Hawkeyes and Cadet flags; a Featherlite trailer; dinner and a movie; a Traeger grill; and a “Let’s Make a Deal” mystery package.
In addition, a drawing for a grand prize print of Borlaug’s Boyhood Farm signed by Dr. Borlaug and artist Douglas Eckhart will be drawn at 5:45. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased at the Chamber.
To keep things as typical as other years, there will be a wine pull and prizes, starting at 4:30. The difference is that each person who gets a ticket will have an opportunity for a bottle and prize, and he may or may not win.
The presidents of the CIDC and Chamber will give speeches, letting everyone know how each organization has fared over the past year.
At 5 p.m., businesses celebrating a special anniversary will be recognized. Look for those names in the Nov. 25 issue of the Times Plain Dealer.
Next, the Organization of the Year and Business of the Year will also be introduced.
No. The banquet will not be the same old event. In some ways it will be even bigger and better than in the past. But organizers are planning for an in-person banquet in 2021.
