Allen Moudry, 66

PROTIVIN - Allen Moudry, age 66, of Protivin, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, May 26 2022, at Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco, Iowa. He was enjoying his usual men’s Thursday night at the Cresco Country Club with friends, where he collapsed and was unable to be revived.

Services will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at 4:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, from 5-8 p.m. at the church, with a family rosary at 4:30 p.m. 

Allen Paul Moudry was born on April 19, 1956 in Cresco to LuVerne and Kay (Tupy) Moudry. He attended grade school at Holy Trinity Catholic School and graduated from South Winn High School in 1974. On Dec. 29, 1975, he married his high school sweetheart, June Novak, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. To this union, three children were born, Brad (Amy), Sarah (Al) Njus and Ben (Ericka). 

Allen and June farmed through the 70s and 80s. He also worked as a carpenter with the Ondrashek brothers, Ron Novak, Steve Spalla and Paul Quandahl through the years. 

In 1989, he was hired by Lynch Livestock to manage the hog buying station in Cresco until his death. In 2006, the opportunity came about for Allen and June to purchase Cresco Livestock Market for marketing cattle, calves, sheep and goats. With the help of a great crew of employees, sales are still held on Monday afternoons, where the saying goes, “My cow died so I don’t need your bull.”

Allen loved working with animals all of his life. Whether it was giving dogs and cats a little treat or chasing a cow or hog down the street. He enjoyed the banter with the farmers, understood the ups and downs of farming life and had an opinion on just about everything,

He was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Church in Protivin, where he served on the parish council and was a past Grand Knight of the KCs. He was currently serving on the board of directors at Regional Health Services in Cresco.

He leaves behind his wife, of 46 years of marriage, June; three children Brad (Amy) of rural Protivin, Sarah (Al) Njus of Pearland, Texas and Ben (Ericka) of Protivin; eight grandchildren; his father LuVerne Moudry of Waucoma, Iowa; and one brother, Kevin of Decorah, Iowa.

Preceding him in death was his mother, Kay Moudry, and infant sister, Cheryl.

Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home is assisting the family. Burial will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Trinity Catholic School, Protivin Fire Department or Regional Health Services of Howard County.
