RIDGEWAY - Delores Fretheim, age 91, of Ridgeway, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021.
Private family services will be held at Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway, with burial at Madison Church Cemetery in rural Ridgeway. Lindstrom Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Delores Yvonne Fretheim was born on June 19, 1929 in Ridgeway to Carl and Josephine (Hopperstad) Qualley. She graduated from Cresco High School with the class of 1947. Afterwards, she attended beauty school, later opening her own salon in Ridgeway.
Delores (Anderson-Qualley) married Stanley Fretheim on Feb. 15, 1954 in Ridgeway. They were married for 66 years. Together, they raised five children and farmed in Ridgeway Township for many years. Delores helped Stanley by working on the farm and later retired after working at Deco for 19 years.
She was a woman of many talents. She spent many hours quilting, crocheting, basket weaving and making the best lefse around. Delores loved cooking and baking for her family and canning every year. Saturday mornings were always spent dancing in the kitchen and listening to polka on the radio. She was also known to have a green thumb — always having a way of blooming the most beautiful African violets. Friends and family would say that Delores was a kind and loving person. She will be missed by all.
Delores is survived by her children, Mark (Marie) Anderson of Oronoco, Minn. Julie Fretheim of Eagan, Minn. Michael (Darla) Fretheim of Burnsville, Minn. and Lori (Gary) Kriener of Cresco, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Amalia (Doug Banyai) Anderson of Laurium, Mich., Christa (Jason Ko) Anderson of Vallejo, Calif., Elynn (Tyler) Horn of Rochester, Minn., Jesse (Emily) Scheer of Shellsburg, Iowa; Cody (Amy) Scheer of Independence, Iowa, Emma and Erin Fretheim of Burnsville, Minn., Mitchell (Savana) Kriener of Cresco and Olivia Kriener (Beau Freeborn) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren, Linzie Sebastian and Ben Swift, Ingrid and Lars Anderson Ko, Ezra, Rowan and Maddison Scheer and Elleana Kriener.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; first husband, Oren Anderson; parents, Carl and Josephine; two brothers, Kenny and Lester; daughter, Betsy Scheer; son, Jeffrey Fretheim; and grandchild, Melinda Fretheim.
