RIDGEWAY - Dolores Vobr, age 86, of Ridgeway, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Wellington Place in Decorah, Iowa.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2020 at the Ridgeway Community Center. Pastor Jim Scaife will be officiating. Friends are invited to join the family for the memorial service followed by an open visitation until 6 p.m. at the community center. A private family burial will take place at Bohemian National Cemetery later this summer.
Dolores Marion Vobr was born on Feb. 16, 1934 to Fred and Edith (Teetshorn) Huhe in Howard County. She attended country school in the Ridgeway area and later graduated from Ridgeway High School. Following school she began working as a secretary for Farm Bureau in Decorah.
On June 19, 1954 she married Elvin Vobr at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union, six children were born. Dolores took on the role of full-time homemaker and mom. With a large family, she kept busy cooking and baking, making many homemade donuts over the years. She enjoyed spending time growing flowers and vegetables in her gardens, canning her produce and raising chickens, turkeys and ducks. She loved to give chickens as gifts to her children for special events and holidays.
Dolores enjoyed taking pictures and always had a purse full of disposable cameras. She had a love for soap operas, especially “Young and the Restless,” which she would record, making sure not to miss an episode. Her needlework skills included crochet and loads of patching jeans, darning socks and mending the family’s clothing.
Those left to cherish her memory (and laugh at the idea that Mom is back at telling Dad what to do) include her six children, Maggie (Bob) Hlubek of Ridgeway, Judy (friend Don Krivachek) Spalla of Fort Atkinson, Iowa, Charlie Vobr of Ridgeway, Jim “Chico” (Annette) Vobr of Ridgeway, Jeff (Jeni) Vobr of Decorah and Mark (Brandee) Vobr of St. Francis, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Galen (Linda) Huhe of Cresco, Iowa; and brother-in-law, William “Billy” Rassman of Ridgeway.
Dolores is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elvin; and two sisters, Mary Rassman and Patty (Richard) Engelhardt.
