ELMA - Donald G. Voy, age 77, of Elma, Iowa, formerly of Rockwell, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2020 at Riceville Family Care Center in Riceville, Iowa.
Funeral services were on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in Elma with Pastor Dan Christensen officiating.  Burial was at Rockwell Cemetery in Rockwell. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Donald Gene Voy was born on March 11, 1943, the son of Lincoln and Ruby (Thompson) Voy in Hampton, Iowa. He graduated in 1962 from Rockwell High School. He married Patty Hansen in 1964, and they lived in Mason City where they began their family. Shortly afterwards, they moved to Russell, Iowa, where he managed the Big Bear Store. His parents bought a farm near Elma in 1971.
In 1972 his father got sick, so Don moved his family to Elma to help care for his father and the farm. He worked at White Farm, John Deere, Sara Lee and A to Z Drying. He retired at the age of 72, shortly after developing diabetes. He then moved in with his daughter, Tricia and family, for four-and-a-half years. He then moved to Riceville Family Care Center, where he liked to pick on the nurses and nurses’ aides. Tricia also worked there, so she knew he was in good hands.
Don enjoyed driving around listening to WHO Radio and Paul Harvey.  He loved to visit with friends and neighbors, being on the farm and his red tractors, which made it a challenge to keep him in town. He also loved to pick on cats. He found a kitten in the field and named it Pinky, which ended up with him in town. He had a great laugh and loved to tell jokes, and you would often hear him say, “Oh, you cotton picker” after his laughter. He loved to pick on his grandchildren.
Donald is survived by his children, Christy (Randy) Boehmer of Alta Vista, Iowa, Jackie Edgar of Elma and Tricia (Corey) Steere of Elma; grandchildren, Allison, Carisa and Sage Boehmer, Ashly and Aubrey Vorwald, Austin Edgar, Brittany Steere, Nikkii (Rueben) Sprung and Corrine Steere; and great-grandchildren, Tylor, Jaxon, Clayton, Brielle, Deklan, Avery and Oaklyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lincoln and Ruby Voy; stepfather, Martin Luttmann; and two brothers in infancy.
