Edie Slifka, 53

Sept. 27, 1969 -
Sept. 5, 2023

CRESCO - Edie Jo Slifka passed away doing what she loved most: riding her hog. Edie was a mother, wife, grandmother, daughter, sister and so much more to her friends and family.
She was the life of the party, and when she showed up, she made sure everyone was participating and felt included. Her smile would light up a room. She could find the smallest of things to bring out a person’s best. She will be remembered as a fighter, a lover, a leader and the foundation that held so many things together in our lives.
Her love for motorcycles and the Stilettos on Steel Female Riding Group was second only to her family. If she wasn’t on the bike, she was probably on the wrestling bleachers shaking her legs or screaming from the bottom of her boundless heart. There was a reason no one sat next to her during events.
She embraced challenges every day. The easy road was never an option to take in her book. Her true love was her family. Her husband Keith, son Hunter, and daughter Whitney may have been just as independent and strong-willed as her, but they loved each other unconditionally.
She was the rock and co-coach to Keith. People may have thought Keith was the real coach but truly she was what kept him moving. Edie adored the afternoon walks, park visits and puppy time with granddaughter Mallory, “Little Bug.” She and her siblings Jill, Carrie, and Matt were always up to no good, especially when all were together.
Whether it was dressing up the chickens, squirting condiments on the ceiling, or hiding candy away at night, it always ended up being her fault as the oldest. Often times, Edie was referred to as Hattie, her mother. The two were inseparable and so much alike in many ways. If there was a feta cheese eating contest, they would win the trophy.
Her spirit will ride on as she looks over us day by day. She is certainly soaring free on her Harley Apollo, with wind blowing in her face, bandana tightened, ear-to-ear grin, and throttle down with the “ba-ba-ba-ba” roar of the bike to serenade her.
At the close of this chapter, she is reunited with Pa, jamming out to Cher, enjoying a cold one and looking over all of us, as she did every day to bring out the best in us.
Edie is survived by her husband, Keith Slifka; son Hunter (Heather) Slifka; daughter, Whitney Slifka; granddaughter, Mallory Slifka; mother, Hattie (Fred Webb) Baird; sister, Caroline (Paul) Baird-Forristall; sister, Jill Baird and brother, Matthew (Shelley) Baird.
She was predeceased by her father, David Baird and her parents-in-law, Kenneth and Mary (Martin) Slifka.
Funeral services for Edie are currently pending.  Please check the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home website for updated service times.
