Saude - Eunice M. Borlaug, age 84 of Saude, Iowa, died Thursday, July 5, 2018, at her home.

A memorial service was held on July 9, 2018, at Saude Lutheran Church with Pastor Peter Faugstad officiating. Inurnment was at Saude Lutheran Church Cemetery following the service.

Eunice Marie Borlaug was born Jan. 11, 1934, on the family farm in rural Howard County, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest and Millie (Hovey) Buri. She attended country school throughout her grade school years and graduated from Harmony High School in 1953. 

She was united in marriage to Harold Borlaug on Sept. 13, 1959, at Greenfield Lutheran Church in Harmony. To this union three children were born.

Eunice’s life was the farm and everything that was involved with it. She was a keystone to the farming operation. She worked in the fields alongside Harold during the planting and harvest seasons. She raised ducks, chickens and turkeys as a way to help feed her family. She had large vegetable and flower gardens, where she spent hours tending and cultivating them. Eunice loved cats and always had several cats living on the farm. She was an active member of the Saude Lutheran Church and spent numerous years on the Ladies Aid.

Eunice is survived by her husband of 58 years, Harold Borlaug of Saude; two sons, Jonathan Borlaug of Waukon, Iowa and Tom (Monica) Borlaug of Prior Lake, Minn.; three grandchildren, Ashlee Borlaug, Benjamin (Katie) Borlaug and Molly Borlaug; one brother, Richard (Betty) Buri of Stewartville, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Todd Borlaug in 1998; and two brothers in infancy.
