CRESCO - Gerald M. Nehl, age 91, of Cresco, Iowa died on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, at Accura Health Care in Cresco.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021, at 11 a.m., at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco, with Father Jacob Rouse officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church from 10-11 a.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Cresco.
Gerald Michael Nehl was born on Aug. 28, 1930, on a farm in Chickasaw County to Otto M. Nehl and Regina (Marion) Nehl. The family moved to Cresco in 1939.
He was drafted into the army in November 1951, and served in Korea as an ordinance mechanic. He was discharged as sergeant in November 1953.
On returning home, he started to work for Dr. D. L. Anderson as an optician. When Dr. Anderson retired in 1970, Gerald opened an office in his home and continued adjusting and working on glasses for people until he retired in 2010.
He enjoyed photography, riding his bicycle and spending evenings during the summer months playing ball with his nieces and nephews.
Gerald is survived by his sister, Marion Steffen, and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
