Janet Daley, 79

CRESCO -  Janet Daley, age 79, passed away on November 10, 2024 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, IA.

Janet Elaine was born on October 4, 1945 in Omaha, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Elwin Strong Sr. and Joyce Ritter.  Janet moved to Cresco in her later teens when she became a foster child of Charles and Loretta Kirtley. Janet graduated from Cresco High School.  

The majority of Janet’s working career included time spent at the Evans Memorial Home, Cresco Care Center and Aase Haugen Home. She was a nurse’s aide and greatly enjoyed her role as a caregiver. 

Janet married Randall “Spike” Gunhus.  To this union four sons were born.  They later divorced. She married Robert “Bob” Daley and continued to live in the Cresco area.

She seldom missed an episode of her “stories”, keeping up with the soap operas on television was a daily must.  She enjoyed shopping, especially for jewelry. And to say she loved Bingo was an understatement.  

Survivors include her sons Shawn (Lauren) Gunhus and Shane (Amy) Gunhus, daughter Brittany (Alexander) Blaess, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her siblings: William, Michael, Kathy, Cynthia “Cindy” and Lonnie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob Daley, sons Bryce Gunhus and Kim “Charlie” Gunhus, infant brother Gregory and a sister Dorothy Stoll. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging. 

Funeral services were held at 11:00am on Friday, November 15, 2024 at the Cresco Community Chapel.  Visitation began one hour prior to services at the church on Friday morning.  Schmelzer (formerly known as Lindstrom) Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
