CRESCO - John Lee Wiedeman was born to Vern and Ruby (Lee) Wiedeman on October 9, 1942, in Cresco. He attended school in the Cresco area and later graduated with the Cresco High School Class of 1961. John continued his education at Iowa State University where he studied animal science, achieving his bachelor’s degree in 1965.
John met Shirley Nise his senior year of high school. They began dating shortly after starting college. After dating for a little over a year they were united in marriage on Nov. 23, 1963. They lived in Ames while John finished college.
In 1965, following graduation they moved from Ames to their forever home near Ridgeway. Here they would raise their two children, Bruce and Jean. John farmed his own land and raised livestock. While farming full time he also worked for many years at the FSA office. John later became a crop adjustor. He loved visiting and getting to know all the area farmers. He recently retired in April of 2023. John was a true pioneer, always trying new things to stay current with the times.
John was a very active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco. He enjoyed singing in the choir, helping with the youth group events and attending the mens coffee group. One of his fondest memories was the group trip they took to the Holy Land in 2019.
But most of all, he truly loved his family and spending time with them. Those left to cherish his memory include his two children, Bruce (Tammy) Wiedeman and Jean (David) Tweten; grandchildren: Jen (Chet) Wilson, Tracy Tweten, Miranda (Shane) Hruska, Chelsi Majewski and Autumn (Deion) Studebaker; great-grandchildren: Larren Wilson, Libby Wilson, Lawson Wilson, Lowen Wilson, Maverick Hruska, Memphis Hruska, Truet Hruska, Arianna Ackerson-Majewski, Braxton Ackerson-Majewski and Tate Studebaker; siblings: Helen Potter, Dean (Marian) Wiedeman and sister in-law Miriam McIntyre.
He is preceded in death by his parents Vern & Ruby (Lee) Wiedeman, wife Shirley Wiedeman and brothers in-law Walt Potter and Steve McIntyre. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco from 3:00-6:00 pm, and again one hour before services on Tuesday morning at the church.
