Larry Hovey, 79

LIME SPRINGS - Larry Hovey, age 79, of Lime Springs, Iowa passed away on Monday, Sept. 14, 2020 at his home. 

Visitation was held on Sept. 18 at Larry’s garage in Lime Springs. Private family services were held at the Saetersdal Lutheran Church with Pastor Jeff Jacobs officiating. Burial was at Saetersdal Lutheran Cemetery. 

Larry Virgil Hovey was born on March 4, 1941, in Harmony, Minn., the son of Virgil and Roelvine (TerBeest) Hovey. He graduated from Harmony High School in 1959. On Jan. 27, 1962, he married Janice Ramaker in Cherry Grove, Minn. To this union, three children were born, Rochelle, Brian and Jodi. The couple later divorced. 

Larry was self-employed and ran his business, Hovey Plumbing and Heating, for over 50 years. For many of those years, his son, Brian, worked alongside him. In his younger years, Larry enjoyed going horseback riding. He loved Corvettes, had a love for speed and was known for being a “rule-breaker.” 

He was a huge Vikings fan and held season tickets for them since 1965. For over 20 years, Larry played fast-pitch softball and was quite talented in the game. He took pride in baking cookies for his grandchildren and was always interested in attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He had a sweet tooth and loved Bakers Square and Dairy Queen. 

Larry is survived by the mother of his children, Janice Hovey of LeRoy, Minn.; his children, Rochelle (Steve) Feine of Amelia, Ohio, Brian Hovey of Lime Springs and Jodi (Doug) Zander of Bismarck, N.D.; grandchildren, Justin (Sarah) Feine of Greendale, Ind., Tyler Feine of Cincinnati, Ohio, Bailianna Thompson of Yorba Linda, Calif. and Noah, Madison, Dominic and Veronica Zander, all of Bismarck, ND; siblings, Pat Soland of Preston, Minn., Mary (Dave) Sikkink of Preston and Joan (Chuck) O’Connor of Harmony; and several nieces and nephews. 

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his infant son; daughter-in-law, Cheri Hovey; and brother-in-law, Guy Soland.
