Lester Douglas Lueck was born on Nov. 20, 1938, in Elgin, Ill., to Wallace and Elizabeth (Bellows) Lueck. He was the third oldest of four children. He married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Ann Peckham in 1960.
He worked as a teamster truck driver and later as a business owner. Together while living in Portland, Ore., Lester and Ruth Ann owned and operated a relatively large RV rental and repair business. He was truly a jack-of-all-trades, from carpentry to brick work and finish carpentry. He could fix basically anything mechanical. The couple built, owned and operated Harbor Storage in Cresco. They converted an old grocery store into a climate controlled indoor storage facility themselves.
Lester made friends easily and enjoyed many lifelong friendships and staying in contact with family all over the United States. Anyone who knew or even met Lester can attest he was certainly one-of-a-kind, with a unique vision and passion for life. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, moose and deer hunting, and he especially loved spending time with his beloved dog, Bridgette.
Lester and Ruth Ann loved to cook and entertain. He was well-known as a great cook, who enjoyed spoiling friends and family with his feasts. Among many amazing dishes he and Ruth Ann would lovingly compete during holidays with their pies and clam chowders. It was a competition enjoyed by many.
Lester is survived by his son, Lionel “Lynn” Lueck of Powell Butte, Ore.; grandchildren, Kristina Oviatt of Vancouver, Wash., Michael (Kira) Lueck of Bend, Ore. and Thomas (Carly) Lueck of McKinney, Texas; great-grandchildren, Isabella Petroni, Payton Ann, Theodore “Teddy” Lueck, Harper Ruth and Emmett Lueck; and brother-in-law, Tom Peckham of Dike, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth Ann; daughters, Rebecca and Laura; brother, David; and sisters, Nancy and Pat.
