CRESCO - Mark Arthur Thomson, 64, of McDonough, GA, passed away on August 20, 2024. Mark was born June 23, 1960 in Berkeley, CA to james Robert (deceased 2018) and Carol Kratz Thomson. He was the older brother to Jan Thomson Cray (married to Randy Cray in 1985). In 1970, the family moved from Cresco, Iowa to Fairbanks, Alaska where they lived for the next 20 years. Mark worked as an assistant hunting guide in the Alaska Range for a number of years. He spent every summer of his high school racing motorcross and hiding many injuries from his parents, whole also bringing home many trophies including the Alaska State Championship.
Mark met the love of his life Kathy, in 1982 in Daytona Beach while starting studies at Embryriddle Aeronautical University. Mark and Kathy married shortly after on May 4, 1985. In 1990 and 1993, they adopted children, Nolan (married to Ashley Chin-Mark 2022) and Alyssa from south Korea. The family spent 11 years in Minneapolis before moving to McDonough, Ga which would be their current residence for the last 27 years.
Mark’s career spanned over 38 years where he dedicated his life to the aviation industry. He began his career at Northwest Airlines as an Aviation Technician for 17 years and maintained Boeing 747s. He then went on the Lockheed Martin as a Senior Assembler for 21 years and took pride in building F-22 and F-35 fighter jets. He had a true passion for aviation.
Mark was born a mechanic. He loved airplanes, trains, and anything with a motor. His family and friends would always look to him for guidance and knowledge about anything mechanical. He was extremely proud of his job in the aviation industry. he worked tireless hours to help provide for and support his family. Mark loved nature and the outdoors, and he often took trips to America’s national parks with his family. He also enjoyed cruising to many different regions with friends.
