Robert Mason, 99

RICEVILLE - Robert Mason, age 99, formerly of Chester, IA, died on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center in Riceville, IA.

Robert "Bob" Lincoln Mason was born on June 17, 1925 in Ankeny, lowa to Edward Clifton Mason and Hada Belle (Purdy) Mason. He grew up in rural Ankeny, IA, and attended Ankeny High School. He served in the army in the 86* Infantry Division Artillery Regiment during WWIl and was honorably discharged in 1946. Following his discharge, he returned to the Mason family farm in Ankeny, IA. On November 11, 1949, he married Norma Rae Johnson. Bob and Norma moved to the current farm south of Chester, lowa in 1957 where they raised five children: Sandie, Patty, Bobby, Becky, and Joe. He raised livestock and crops and later was employed by Marzolf Implement for 15 years prior to retirement.

Preceding Robert in death are his parents Edward and Hada, sister Alice Mason Donahue, brothers Glenn, Harold "'Bud", William "Bill", an infant sister Shirley, and grandchild Cody Mason

Survivors include his wife Norma of almost 75 years, children; Sandra (Dean) Mathiason, Patricia (Stacy) Barclay, Robert J. Mason (Gloria Hanson), Rebecca (Paul) Schlangen, and Joseph (Cathy) Mason; grandchildren Holly, Eric, Kim, Kelly, Chris, and Will; great grandchildren Maddie, Owen, Haley, Morgan, Kristie, Jaxyn, Skyler, Lucas, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Robert was held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco, IA, with Pastor Melissa Warren officiating. Visitation was held from 10-11 a.m., prior to the service. Burial and honor guard will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lime Springs, IA, following the service.
