CRESCO - Russell David Ferrie, age 62 of Cresco, passed away from complications due to surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester on Oct. 17, 2023. He was surrounded by many wonderful and caring doctors and nurses during his final days.
Russell was born on Nov. 26,1960 to Ray and Gladys (Frana) Ferrie. He graduated from Crestwood High School in 1979. He made many lifetime friends and memories. He will forever be remembered for his contagious smile and hugs.
After high school, Russell started working for Winneshiek County as a Maintainer Driver for 26 years. After being forced to retire from the county due to an injury, he worked for various hog farmers.
In 1989, his daughter, Jazmon, was born which brought tremendous joy to his life. This also brought his grandson, Silas, whom he adored.
After years of searching, he finally met the love of his life, Cindy Wenthold. They wed in 2013 at their Lourdes home, and later moved to a home outside of Cresco. They made many memories in their 10-year marriage.
Fond memories of Russell include his love of telling stories and jokes, sense of humor, and musical ability to sing Old McDonald Had A Farm. He also brought a lot of excitement to the game of Poker. Russell enjoyed watching all kinds of sports but was an avid Raiders fan and enjoyed watching them most of all!
Russell is survived by his wife Cindy, grandson Silas Booze, mother Gladys Ferrie, mother in-law Betty Wenthold, brothers Kenneth (Carol), Kevin and Roger (Kari); sister-in-law Ann Ferrie and many special nieces and nephews that he loved.
