CRESCO - Wayne T. Carolan, age 82, of Cresco, Iowa passed away on Jan. 11, 2021 under the care of Evans Memorial Home and Hospice of Howard County. 
Due to COVID-19, the funeral will be held at a later date. Lindstrom Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. 
Wayne was born on March 30, 1938 in Bonair, Iowa, the son of Tom and Stella Carolan. He was raised on the family farm in rural Lime Springs and graduated from Cresco High School in 1956. He then attended Iowa State University.
Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1959-1962. While stationed at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, he was a part of one of the first U.S. military units to develop an American military outpost in Thailand and was part of the initial exploratory U.S. Forces into Vietnam.
Wayne married the love of his life, Alice (Bauer) on July 2, 1964. He was active in many community activities including the Lions Club. 
In 1965 Wayne became the first local employee of Donaldson Company and spent years as plant superintendent until his retirement. As a Master Craftsman, he was in his true element in his extensive workshop, refurbishing and making furniture from scratch and repairing almost anything.
Wayne is survived by his brother, Neil (Linda) of Tucson, Ariz.; nephew, Tom (Sue) of Pitcher, N.Y.; great-nephews, Logan, Dakota and Noah; his niece, Captain Michele (Scott) Day, USN of Singapore; great-nieces, Abigail, Emilia and Nora; many cousins; and Mark Rix, who was a great friend for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice in 2017; his parents; his twin sister, Wanda; and his eldest sister, Betty.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Wayne’s memory to Howard County Community Hospice or Evans Memorial Home.
