Facing Waukon at home on Dec. 12, the Cadets were unable to hold off the Indians down the stretch as Waukon won, 64-58.
Waukon took a 14-9 lead after one period and held a 31-26 halftime edge before the Cadets rallied in the second half.
In the third quarter, Crestwood trailed 31-38 before going on a 13-3 run to take a 44-41 lead into the fourth. The Cadets nabbed a 55-50 lead with five minutes left before Waukon closed the game on a 14-3 run to earn the win.
“Waukon was tougher than we were down the stretch,” Cadet Coach Lynn McCormick said. “They forced some turnovers, they were more aggressive and they got some steals. We had a five-point lead (in the fourth), but we turned the ball over because we didn’t take care of the ball.
“Down the stretch, Waukon out-hustled us and they got every loose ball and every rebound. We didn’t do some things well against their zone. We let Waukon’s baseline cutters get to us. We had a nice comeback in the second half, but when we get a lead, we need to make sure we take care of the ball and do the things we need to win. Turnovers are killing us, and we need to fix that,” the coach said.
Clayton Ollendieck tallied 16 points, including two three-pointers, had four rebounds and one block. Zack Lane had 13 points and six rebounds. Carter Henry finished with eight points, four rebounds and three assists.
Boston Ferrie had seven points, seven rebounds and three assists. Jacob Andera tallied five points and one rebound. Jon Henry scored four points, had four rebounds and three assists. Nathan Martinek had three points and two rebounds. Shane Vokaty scored two points and had two assists. Kristian Szajna had six rebounds and three assists.
The Cadets made 20 of 51 total field goals, including three of 13 three-pointers, made 15 of 22 free throws, had 35 rebounds and 15 assists.

A rough first half hurt the Cadets on Saturday as they fell to Kingsland, 44-52.
Kingsland took a 12-4 first period lead, held a 24-12 halftime edge and led 34-25 going into the fourth quarter.
“It was another slow start for our team,” McCormick said. “We committed eight turnovers before we had our first basket, and we were zero-for-five on shots to start the game.
“We need to find a way to start better and eliminate some turnovers. We made a good run in the second half to cut the lead to four points, but we were unable to get over the hump,” the coach said.
